Bay City attorney Guy M. Cotter was born and raised in East Tawas, Michigan. Guy graduated from Tawas Area High School, and then attended Florida Gulf Coast University before finishing his undergraduate degree at Hope College, majoring in Business Communication and Organizational Leadership. Guy also received an associate degree in Managerial Accounting from Davenport University in Grand Rapids before attending law school. Guy is a fourth-generation attorney and enrolled at Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Auburn Hills, Michigan where he graduated with his Juris Doctor, cum laude, while also passing the Michigan Bar Exam on his first attempt.
During Guy’s time at Cooley, he was the President of the Mock Trial Board, Vice President of the Student Bar Association, Vice President of the Christian Legal Society, Student Attorney for the Michigan Legal Aide Estate Planning Clinic, and Teaching Assistant for Advocacy.
After graduating from Thomas M. Cooley Law School and taking the bar exam, Guy immediately began working at Gower Law. His current law practice interests include criminal defense, personal injury, bankruptcy, expungements, gun right restoration, and driver’s license appeals.
In his free time, Guy enjoys being up north with his family on the water, participating in his church’s Bible study, fishing, and spending time with friends from college and law school. Finally, Guy credits his faith in Jesus Christ as a path that led him into practicing law.
