CARO — The case against a Caro woman accused of stabbing her ex-husband and his girlfriend will proceed following a re-evaluation of the suspect’s competence.
Lisa R. Husarick, 35, recently was deemed competent to stand trial on two counts of assault with intent to murder, said her attorney, Jason P. Gower of Bay City.
Evaluators at the Center for Forensic Psychiatry in Ypsilanti earlier determined Husarick understood the allegations but was not able to assist in her own defense, Bay City Times records show.
“A criminal responsibility evaluation indicated that, although she is mentally ill, she doesn’t meet the definition of insanity in Michigan,” Gower added. “Obviously, we disagree.”
“We’ve not had any formal plea discussions as yet,” Gower said.
Investigators allege Husarick stabbed the Mount Morris couple Oct. 31 at a home in Indianfields Township, Times records show. http://www.mlive.com/news/bay-city/index.ssf/2010/08/caro_woman_ruled_competent_to.html |
